If you have any questions or concerns - or plot ideas! - please leave a message here!

Disclaimer: Also, I am not a nurse; I don't study in the medical field or anything like that - sooo if I happen to fudge up on a fact, or I end up making something up, it doesn't mean Rory's an idiot (usually). It means the mun just doesn't know the lingo.

Honestly, most of my info will likely come from Wikipedia. ;)
rorypond: (also: a nurse)
As hard as it is to believe, meeting the Doctor - the Raggedy Doctor - for the first time isn't the strangest thing to happen to Rory Williams.

Honestly, nothing quite beats an Allpocalypse at the Bar at the End of the Universe.

And nothing quite beats living through it.

So the Doctor is more like an addendum to what has been an already very mad year.

*

When Rory first opens his eyes, he finds himself lying on the cold linoleum tiles of the coma ward, feeling a little like he'd just woken up from one himself. He is in his scrubs, running shoes, pen and name-tag accounted for and everything.

And if that isn't enough, he has the biggest migraine life probably has to offer.

After calling it in early ("I'm so sorry, Dr Ramsden. It won't happen again, I promise - it's just -" "Oh, just go home Rory. We'll call you if we need you." "Right. Right, thank you."), Rory sits around in the town square for ages, just staring at the duckless duck pond, the empty telephone booth, and the little park to the side where one or two children are playing. His mind is a bit of a mess; he wonders if what he's remembering is ... true. If he really had been rushing about with an armful of bandages while the sky was blood red, and the lake was boiling, and there were explosions and warpy time-things going on outside the Window ... and missing mountains in the background.

It's the little strip of bandage hanging over the pocket of his scrubs, stained dark with someone's blood, that gives him his answer.

*

It doesn't happen right away.

Rory starts to notice that the patients he watches over in the coma ward are starting to ... show up in places around town.

In the local Tescos down the street.

At the post office.

In the pub where he meets up with his mates every weekend.

In the park by the little lake, where he and Amy go for their fifth date.

Sometimes Rory gets pictures of them on his phone.

Other times, Rory just stares, surges of worry starting to eat away at him.

He looks up at the sky, almost expecting to see red.

*

When Rory is sacked from the hospital, he wanders a little through Leadworth, armed with nothing but his scrubs, his pen, his name-tag ... and his phone of pictures.

He winds up in the town square like always, really considering what might happen if his world ends the same way Milliways must have.

And then the sun answers by doing something weird.

And then the patients, coma patients, appear in the square again, almost as if to say, 'You do nothing, Rory Williams. Because what can you do? Grab a roll of bandages again? Fruitlessly patch up the injured until the end?'

"- the sun's going out, and you're photographing a man and a dog. Why?"

A strange man plucks his phone out of his grasp, and he does nothing to stop it.

And then a rush of ginger and a familiar police woman's costume appears next to him, and for a moment Rory forgets about the end of the world. "Amy."

She touches his arm, a little breathless. "Hi! Oh uh, this is Rory. He's uh - a friend."

Rory blurts: "Boyfriend."

"Kind of ... boyfriend."

"Amy -"

This man doesn't seem to care. Impatiently, he repeats: "Man and dog. Why?"

And then it hits him.

Maybe it's the Allpocalypse, and its spreading here, and stories and make-believe from his own life (Amy used to make him dress up!) are starting to become real, but Rory freaks out.

Just a little.

(Okay, well maybe more than a little.)

"Oh. My. God. It's him."

"Yes -"

"It's him, though. The Doctor. The Raggedy Doctor. But he was a story. It was a gaaammme -"

The Doctor grabs fistfuls of nurse scrubs, and yes. Yes, the Doctor is very, very real.

"Man and dog," he says again. "Tell me. Why."

So, he does.

*

Amy's Raggedy Doctor, in all his madness, manages to save the world.

And all under twenty minutes.

After the mess is over, Rory feels like everything in his entire life - Milliways and home - has changed.

He feels changed.

Milliways has always felt like something separate from his life, like an adventure he could visit and then leave to come back to a place where everything was normal. Mundane, even.

And now ...

He's not sure he really likes the Doctor. He's mad and reckless, and there's the way Amy looks at him that he doesn't like.

But then the blue box in Amy's backyard (and the Raggedy Doctor with it) disappears, and Rory feels both relieved and a little empty, like maybe all of this weirdness ends here and he isn't sure he quite wants that.

It's unsettling, that feeling.

He isn't meant to feel like that, is he?

He isn't meant to feel like he ... misses it. Misses Milliways, and the oddness, and the crazy adventure.

*

For three years, Rory Williams goes on without a single Allpocalyptic thing in his life.

He and Amy get a little more serious.

He gets a promotion at the hospital.

He manages to afford the most brilliant engagement ring.

He proposes to Amy.

She says 'yes'.

And then, one day, the Door appears.
rorypond: do you mean to say that these are not vampires but fish aliens? of course that's totally normal. (hold on a moment)
The following are links with all the people Rory's spoken to and what he's learned. I figure since he has a pretty good memory, I should keep a record for him to remember details.

This will also be helpful for me too, as it can sometimes be a drag going through a bunch of threads to find out a past bit of information.

2008.

Rory's life is normal. Some might even say it's a bit boring.

(He wouldn't, though. To him, it's nice. Quaint. Stable.)

He's nineteen, a third year nursing student, and he's never been outside of Leadworth except for the two times he went to London.

He spends most of his days in the hospital - studying procedures, vocabulary and patient charts, and running from floor to floor. Sometimes he forgets to eat. Sometimes he even forgets to go home.

He likes routine.

He also likes Leadworth.

And there's this girl who lives a few streets from him. This brilliant, brilliant girl with a fairytale name.

(Amelia Pond.

Though she calls herself 'Amy' these days.)

One day, he's going to marry her.

(Even if he's pretty sure she's never looked at him that way.)

[Rory is at his stag party; music is playing; there is a paper cake in the middle of the pub. The men cheer for the "beautiful woman" to come out of the cake, however to their surprise the Doctor pops out instead. Rory shakes his head as he realizes who it is.]The Doctor: Rory! [feedback whines; music stops] That's a relief! I thought I had burst out of the wrong cake. Again. That reminds me, there's a girl standing outside in a bikini. Can someone let her in, give her a jumper? Lucy. Lovely girl. [whispers] Diabetic. [everyone continues staring at him] Now then, Rory, we need to talk about your fiancée. [Rory smiles] She tried to kiss me. [Crowd draws breath; Rory is visibly shocked] Tell you what though, you're a lucky man; she's a great kisser! [Glass smashes; Doctor realizes what he just said] ...Funny how you can say something in your head and it sounds fine.

The Doctor: It's a lot to take in, isn't it? Tiny box, huge room inside; what's that about? Let me explain...
Rory: It's another dimension.
The Doctor: It's basically another dimensi... what?
Rory: After what happened with Prisoner Zero, I've been reading up on all the latest scientific theories. FTL travel, parallel universes.
The Doctor: I like the bit when someone says "It's bigger on the inside!" I always look forward to that. [The Doctor looks annoyed, then smiles]

Amy: Hey, look at this. I got my spaceship, I got my boys... my work here is done. [struts into the TARDIS, head held high]
Rory: [scoffs] We are not her "boys."
The Doctor: Yeah, we are.
Rory: Yeah, we are.
[As the Doctor is about to enter the Tardis, everything falls silent; there is no sound from anything].
The Doctor: Rory, listen to that.
Rory: Er, what? All I can hear is...silence.
The Doctor: Exactly.
[The Doctor and Rory step back into the TARDIS, visibly unnerved]
Signora Rosanna Calvierri: [voiceover] There were cracks. Through some we saw silence and the end of all things...

The Doctor: I told you trust nothing we see hear or feel. Look around you, examine everything. Look for all the details that don't ring true.
Rory: Okay, well, we're in a spaceship that's bigger on the inside than the outside.
Amy: With a bow tie-wearing alien.
Rory: So maybe what [does air quotes] "rings true" isn't so simple.

The Dream Lord: If you die in the dream, you wake up in reality. Healthy recovery in next to no time. Ask me what happens if you die in reality.
Rory: What happens?
The Dream Lord: You die, stupid. That's why it's called "reality".

Rory
: Oh, a poncho. The biggest crime against fashion since lederhosen.
Amy: Ah, here we go. Oh, my boys, my poncho boys, if we're going to die, let's go out looking like a Peruvian folk band.

The Doctor: Amy! Where's Amy?
Rory: She's fine, Doctor, just unconscious.
The Doctor: [examining Amy with the sonic screwdriver] Okay... Yes, she's sedated though, so, half an hour she'll be fine... Okay, Romans! Good, I was just wishing for Romans! Good old River, how many?
Rory: Fifty men up top, volunteers. What about that thing?
The Doctor: [distracted] Fifty? Not exactly a legion.
Rory: Your friend was very persuasive, but, uh... It's a tough sell...
The Doctor: Yes, I know that, Rory, I'm not exactly going to miss the obvious, but we need everything we can get. Okay! Cyberweapons, this is basically a sentry post, headless wonder here was a sentry. Probably got himself duffed up by the locals, never underestimate a Celt.
Rory: Doctor!
The Doctor: Hush, Rory, thinking. What could the Cybermen have guarded unless it's a Cyberthing in the box but why lock up one of their own? Okay, no, not a Cyberthing but what? What? Oh, missing something, obvious, Rory! Something big, something right slap in front of me, I feel it.
Rory: [sarcastically] Yeah, I think you probably are.
The Doctor: I'll get it in a minute. [hauls the Cyberweapons over his shoulder and walks off; -the sound of metal hitting the floor loudly- then returns a minute later, looking confused, and pokes Rory's chest. Rory leans backwards, then forwards, and the Doctor finally realizes Rory is there] Hello again.
Rory: Hello.
The Doctor: How have you been?
Rory: Good, yeah. Good. I mean, Roman.
The Doctor: Rory, [gesturing madly] I'm not trying to be rude, but you died.
Rory: Yeah. I know. I was there.
The Doctor: You died, and then you were erased from time. You didn't just die, you were never born at all, you never existed.
Rory: Erased? Wh-what does that mean?
The Doctor: How can you be here?
Rory: Well - I don't know. It's... kinda fuzzy.
The Doctor: Fuzzy...
Rory: Well, I died, and turned into a Roman. It's very distracting.

Auton Rory
: Doctor what am I?
The Doctor: You're a Nestene Duplicate. A lump of plastic with delusions of humanity.
Auton Rory: But I'm Rory now. Wh-whatever was happening, it's stopped, I'm Rory!
The Doctor: That's software talking.
Auton Rory: ...Can you help her, is there anything you can do?
The Doctor: [stands up] Yeah, probably, if I had the time. [walks away]
Auton Rory: The time!?
The Doctor: All of Creation has just been wiped from the sky. Do you know how many lives now never happened, all the people who never lived? [callously] Your girlfriend isn't more important than the whole universe.
[Furious, Rory grabs the Doctor by the shoulder, turns him round, and punches him straight in the face, knocking him to the floor]
Auton Rory: She is to me!
The Doctor: [gets up, dazed, and laughs gleefully] Welcome back, Rory Williams! [turns to face him] Sorry. Had to be sure. [feels his jaw] Hell of a gun arm you're packing there. [Walks back to Amy] Right! We need to get her downstairs. And take that look off your plastic face, you're getting married in the morning!

The Doctor
: Why do you have to be so... human?
Auton Rory: Because right now, I'm not.

Amy
: You absolutely definitely may kiss the bride.
The Doctor: Amy, from now on I will be leaving the... kissing duties to the brand new Mr. Pond.
Rory: No, I'm not Mr. Pond. That's not how it works.
The Doctor: Yeah, it is.
Rory: [glances at Amy] Yeah, it is.

Doctor
: Something's come up, so this will have to be goodbye.
Amy: Yeah I think it is good-bye... [turns to Rory] d'you think it is goodbye?
Rory: Definitely good-bye!
Amy: [Looks out the TARDIS and shouts] Goodbye!
