Character's background (their past and present):
Rory is the childhood friend, fiancee, and eventually husband of Amy Pond. At an early age, he was forced to dress up and play along with her make-believe games involving the Raggedy Doctor. His knowledge of the Doctor, therefore, comes quite early in his life, though he (like everyone else in her life) believes it is all just a game.
Later when he meets the Doctor for real, he is a nurse at the Royal Leadworth Hospital and the boyfriend of Amy. He shows signs of being clever and a worthy sort of Companion (both to Amy and the Doctor) when he, of all the hospital staff, notices something strange happening in the coma ward. He is also a bit meek, awkward, and bumbles. However, when it comes to Amy, he shows he can be quite capable of anything. He's brave, strong, devoted and resourceful. He isn't afraid to stand up to the Doctor when he needs to hear it and is able to think quickly on his feet when the matter calls for it.
He travels with the Doctor and Amy to Venice 1580 where he gets a first-hand taste of what the Doctor and his companion do on a regular basis, slowly beginning to see the world from Amelia's eyes, therefore 1) growing more in love with her and 2) realizing this is actually kind of exciting, and then through a series of dreamworlds where he is killed in one reality. Their travels finally bring them to Cwmtaff 2020, where he is killed by a Silurian soldier and is taken by the Crack in space and time, thereby being erased from history. The only one who maintains solid memory of Rory is the Doctor; he helps Amy remember him by the time they get to the 2nd century AD, which is a big mess of time and space reflected from Amy's childhood memories.
Rory later appears in the form of a Roman Centurion soldier; but while he is Rory in heart and soul, he is also a 'Nestene duplicate' and is actually made of plastic. Amy remembers everything he is and was to her, but because he does not have full control of himself (he and the other soldiers are part of the Pandorica's Trap), he ends up killing her.
Rory frees the Doctor from the Pandorica box and Amy is put into said box for her DNA to be regenerated, while the Doctor must save the entire universe. Rory takes it upon himself to guard the box, showing his heroism, his bravery and utter devotion to Amy Pond. Being made of plastic means he never dies (but he also doesn't sleep or eat), and he makes it his entire life to keep the box safe from anything. He guards her for 2000 years, even becoming something of legend known as the 'Lone Centurion'. He's a Security Guard in the future where the Box is kept in a museum, helps the Doctor and Amy save the universe, and with everything put back in its place - with the exception of the Doctor for the time being - marries Amy.
On the day of their wedding, Amy remembers the Doctor, brings him back into existence, thereby sparking something in Rory's memories of the Doctor as well, and the three of them decide to continue adventuring together.
Character's personality:
Rory starts off as being shy, a bit clumsy, dorky, and not entirely sure of himself - or anything, really. He is easily influenced and even a bit submissive but once he is sure of his place in the world, that of being a Nurse, being Amy Pond's first and last love, and even being accepted as a travel Companion to the Doctor, his confidence is allowed to grow. 2,000 years as a Roman Centurion also help.
He is something of a natural hero, and he is fiercely loyal and protective over those he loves. He is kind and genuine and sincere, and he is usually the most level-headed and skeptical of the traveling trio (with Amy and the Doctor). He also cares about the well-being of people and non-people, an instinct from his being a medical nurse, to be sure.
Character's skills/abilities/powers:
He has extensive medical knowledge as a nurse.
As a Centurion soldier who has protected Amy and the Pandorica for 2,000 years, he is also very skilled in hand-to-hand combat, swordplay, and guns.
Any special equipment your character is bringing along? This includes weaponry, magic items, etc.:
None.
Are you bringing your character to
Yes.
If you answered yes above, briefly summarize how they were changed by and what challenges they faced in the climate of their previous game(s):
Rory, before Milliways and the Doctor, was - as described previously - kind of an insecure mess. He wasn't much of a believer in things like space-and-time-travel, or in Amy's Raggedy Man and certainly not in himself. He went along with whatever others wanted him to do but didn't quite grow into his own until he was launched into the bar at the end of the universe.
That was where he sort of had to fend for himself, and learn first-hand (instead of following another) just what it was like to live the type of life Amy wanted, and to understand the perks of it - and to discover his own interest in it too. He survived the Allpocalypse at Milliways Bar which was a huge turning point in his character, because it led him to understand and become a part of the Doctor and Amy team, not just for Amy (though, who are we kidding, that's a huge part of it) but for himself too.
Having that past and that kind of change in his life just seems too valuable to let go.
Why do you want to play this character in Ten Forward, and what do you plan to do with them?
As in canon, Rory follows Amy ... so Rory is following Amy here. Yes, I just went into all of the stuff about him finding himself, and I still believe that! But as a mun, Rory plays off Amy incredibly well, and in the end, he still needs her. Continuing his adventures in a different setting would be exciting, as he had gone a bit stagnant in the last game. I also want him to be able to meet even more different types of people and non-people.
